Movie Story : The Silence follows fifteen former 'comfort women,' who were forced into sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II, as they fight for public acknowledgment and compensation. Filmmaker Soo-nam Park, a Zainichi Korean, documents their campaign. The film argues that the issue has been framed almost entirely through Korean nationalism and examines how nationalism and the rise of postwar Asian nation-states have obstructed a fuller understanding of these women's stories.
